Frequently asked questions
What exactly gets removed?
Camera make/model, capture date, exposure settings, lens info, and crucially GPS coordinates and your name if the camera stored it. The visible picture is untouched.
Why offer a full re-encode?
Segment stripping removes standard EXIF. A full re-encode rebuilds the image from pixels only, wiping every kind of hidden metadata (EXIF, XMP, ICC, comments) β the nuclear option.
Do social networks already strip EXIF?
Most do when they re-compress uploads β but not always, not everywhere, and not for direct file transfers, email or chat βdocumentβ mode. Stripping before you send puts you in control.
